Torrential monsoon rains have caused severe flash floods and landslides across North Sumatra, sweeping through villages, destroying homes, and leaving families with nothing to return to. Entire communities are now underwater.
At least 49 people have been confirmed dead, and 67 are still missing. More than 2,000 homes and public buildings have been submerged or destroyed, and the death toll is expected to rise as rescue teams struggle to reach isolated areas. Thousands of people have been displaced with many now sheltering in temporary evacuation centres with limited access to food, clean water, and essential supplies.
