Sri Lanka Floods & Landslides: Emergency Appeal
Torrential rains brought by Cyclone Ditwah have triggered catastrophic floods and landslides across all 25 districts of Sri Lanka, sweeping through communities, destroying homes, and leaving families with nothing to return to. Entire towns have been submerged, and critical infrastructure has collapsed under the force of the storm.
According to the latest updates, hundreds have lost their lives with hundreds still missing. Nearly 1.4 million people have been affected, and over 230,000 people have been displaced and are now sheltering in over 1,400 temporary centres. Thousands of homes have been destroyed or severely damaged, and the number continues to rise as assessments reach previously inaccessible areas.
Families are facing overwhelming loss as their homes, livelihoods, and loved ones were swept away in minutes.
Communities Need Immediate Assistance
Those who fled the floods are now living in overcrowded shelters with extremely limited access to food, clean water, medical care, and safe sanitation. Many left with only the clothes they were wearing.
With roads damaged, bridges washed away, and entire districts cut off, humanitarian needs continue to escalate by the hour. Relief agencies warn of heightened risks of disease outbreaks, hunger, and further displacement as rains continue.
