Hi, my name is Idrees, and this Saturday, 16 August, I’ll be taking part in The Big Ride for Palestine — a cycling event that combines a love for the sport with a cause that’s very close to my heart.
I’ve pledged to raise £10,000 for SKT Welfare to support the people of Gaza, Palestine, who continue to endure unimaginable hardship under a brutal military occupation. Every donation will go directly towards providing urgent humanitarian aid to those who need it most.
The distance is about 31 miles, which is approximately 50 kilometres. This ride is not just about covering miles — it’s about raising awareness and standing in solidarity with the people of Palestine. It’s my way of taking action against the ongoing human rights violations in Gaza and the West Bank (including East Jerusalem), and highlighting the continued breaches of international law.

The Big Ride for Palestine is more than just an event — it’s a movement. Since it began in 2015, supporters of Palestine have come together through cycling to raise both awareness and vital funds.
Over the past five years, The Big Ride has raised over £300,000 for the Middle East Children’s Alliance (MECA) — including more than £90,000 in 2021 alone.
By taking part, I’m joining hundreds of others in shining a light on the struggle of the Palestinian people, and doing something practical to help.
