PAKISTAN FLOOD APPEAL 2022

While news coverage of the floods in Pakistan has dwindled, hundreds of thousands of people are dealing with the long-lasting devastating effects. Over 1000 people have lost their lives, and this has torn families and communities apart.

Rain-related incidents have also injured 536 people and left thousands of families displaced as heavy monsoon spell has continued to batter the country since June 14

Balochistan remained one of the most hard-hit areas, where 136 people were killed, 13,535 houses were partially or fully damaged, and over 13,000 livestock perished. As torrential rains and flash floods continued in Balochistan, the second stream of floodwater entered in adjacent Qambar-Shahdadkot district and the hilly region of Kachho in Dadu district, causing more losses in different areas, ARY News reported.

SKT Welfare is on the ground in Pakistan providing vital support to those affected by the floods

"Thirty more villages in Kachho and link roads have submerged in the water, as a total of drowned villages in the hilly region has reached 50," according to sources. According to ARY News, the local sources said that the people of the affected areas are forced to take refuge in hills and protective dykes to save their lives.

"An elderly woman of 70 years, in a flood-hit village died of a health condition while failing to get medical help."

Impoverished communities in Sindh and Punjab have been washed away, leaving people homeless, without shelter, security or support. Families have been forced to live in make-shift tents with no access to food or income.

The Coronavirus pandemic leaves the people of even more at risk as they struggle to stay safe. Without food and the ability to wash their hands due to having lost everything in the floods, they are even more at risk than before. Hundreds of people have completely lost their homes, and as winter is approaching, their safety and protection is more important than ever.  (credit: ARY News, PakistanToday)
