For just £1, you can provide a meal to someone fasting on one of the most sacred days of the Islamic calendar — the Day of Ashura.
“Fasting on the day of Ashura expiates the sins of the past year.”
— Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
The Month of Allah: Muharram
Muharram is not just the first month of the Islamic year, it is one of the four sacred months, honoured and beloved by Allah ﷻ.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The best fasting after Ramadan is in the month of Allah — Muharram.”
It is the only month the Prophet ﷺ described as “the month of Allah”, a title that reflects its unmatched spiritual weight.
Fasting during Muharram is a powerful act of devotion, a way to begin the year with sincerity, gratitude, and nearness to Allah ﷻ. It is highly recommended — especially on the 9th, 10th, and 11th— as a way of drawing nearer to Allah and showing gratitude.
And for those unable to fast due to poverty or displacement, your generosity can help.
What is Ashura?
Ashura falls on the 10th of Muharram, a day of profound spiritual significance. It marks the moment Allah ﷻ saved Prophet Musa (AS) and his people from Pharaoh, a day of divine mercy and deliverance.
The Prophet ﷺ honoured this day with fasting, describing it as a means of forgiveness and renewal. It is also reported that Prophet Nuh (AS) fasted this day in gratitude when his ark came to rest on Mount Judi.
