Donate to Tanzania, over 24 million people in Tanzania are affected by its water crisis. Almost half the population lacks a ready supply of clean, uncontaminated water for drinking and cooking, washing, and sanitation. Inevitably the population’s water access, sanitation, and hygiene (shortened to WASH) problems severely impact the country’s health, education, and economy.
Lack of convenient running water is the problem for millions, with women and children burdened literally by their daily need to walk challenging distances to gather and carry home water sourced from unsafe sources like rivers, canals, ponds, and streams, often contaminated by human waste leaking from the many basic outdoor toilet areas that exist because of this lack of hygienic sanitation.
SKT Welfare is among the charitable organisations addressing this chronic need, and is undertaking to dig and install wells alongside its continuing mosque construction project in Tanzania.
`
Pictured here is such a well - strongly built to last many years, and descending a full 35 metres, to a source of natural water that is clean, pure, and uncontaminated with bacteria. But, far from being a simple hole in the ground, exposed to the elements and vulnerable to contamination, it is sealed, with an electric pump supplying a header tank that delivers water to several taps to enable up to five people at a time to fill buckets or containers to carry water away. It’s a modern, effective answer to addressing a community’s vital need for water, even as the adjacent Mosque provides a holy place for them to gather and pray. But, as with everything SKT Welfare does to help our vulnerable and suffering brothers and sisters, we depend on the blessed kindness of our many donors.
