Our Water appeal is a Palestine charity that provides fresh, clean water for Gaza. With rampant water shortages and accessible water from Gaza’s aquifer being thoroughly contaminated with waste, seawater and chemicals, there is widespread illness and poor health throughout the city.
Many suffer from waterborne diseases such as diarrhoea, typhoid and gastroenteritis because they have no choice but to drink the contaminated water. Over 12% of child deaths in Gaza can be attributed to this diseased water.
No one should have to worry over whether their next glass of water will make them ill. No one should have to live without access to clean water. £85 can provide 70,000 litres of safe, clean drinking water for Gaza for one day. Since the 11 days of bombings they suffered in May, Gaza’s Palestinians have struggled to rebuild, faced with the daily challenge of destroyed homes, shattered infrastructure, and reliable power and water supplies. With your help, SKT Welfare has set up two water purification plants in Gaza each producing 50,000 to 70,000 litres of fresh water for Gaza daily – and providing over half a million Palestinians with safe drinking water.
A whole desalination plant costs £85,000.
SKT Welfare is looking to build a new 4th desalination plant in Ma’an, North Rafah Capable of processing up to 100,000 litres per day, its typical output of 60,000 litres per day is drawn from wells – the naturally salted water desalinated, filtered, and sterilised by ultraviolet rays, to supply 20,000 of the local population.
Thanks to all your generous donations, we have been able to set up two water purification plants in Gaza. Each of our water purification plants produce 50,000 to 70,000 litres of fresh water daily. This provides over half a million impoverished Palestinians in Gaza with safe drinking water, InshAllah.
People who previously had to travel several miles to collect water or take their chances on water from the aquifer can now drink in peace, knowing they now have a reliable source of clean water for their families.
